Ovcha Kupel combines mineral springs, New Bulgarian University and the western branch of metro line 3. The Ovcha Kupel 1 and 2, Gorna Banya and Suhodol quarters offer everything from panel-block flats to houses with gardens, with quick escapes to Lyulin mountain and the motorways.
Ovcha Kupel district occupies south-west Sofia towards the slopes of Lyulin mountain — around 54,000 residents on 42 sq. km. The name comes from its warm mineral springs, and the historic Ovcha Kupel mineral bath opened back in 1933.
Ovcha Kupel 1 and 2 are the housing estates, Gorna Banya and Suhodol keep the character of house quarters, Karpuzitsa completes the belt, and the village of Malo Buchino also lies within the district. It is home to New Bulgarian University, with over 7,000 students, and the stadium of Slavia — Sofia's oldest football club.
The western branch of metro line 3 (opened 2021) terminates at Gorna Banya with a park-and-ride and a railway interchange, while Tsar Boris III and Nikola Petkov boulevards lead to the centre. The mineral springs of Ovcha Kupel and Gorna Banya remain the district's trademark. The market offers panel-era and new apartments near the metro, and houses with gardens in Gorna Banya and Suhodol.
