Iskar is Sofia's eastern district around the Druzhba lake and the airport — the Druzhba 1 and 2 estates, Dimitar Milenkov and Abdovitsa. Metro line 4 crosses the district on its way to Sofia Airport, and Vrana Palace with its park sits on its border.
Iskar district occupies eastern Sofia along the Iskar river — around 63,000 residents on 26 sq. km, where the city meets the airport. A combination of large housing estates, parks and industrial zones.
Druzhba 1 and 2 are the main housing estates — panel blocks around the Druzhba lake and its park, joined by new construction. Dimitar Milenkov and Abdovitsa are smaller quarters, while the village of Busmantsi and the Gara Iskar zone form the industrial belt. On the district's border stands Vrana Palace with its botanical park.
Metro line 4 crosses the district with Iskarsko Shose (with a railway interchange) and Druzhba stations on its way to Sofia Airport — the centre is about 20 minutes away. The Druzhba lake is a favourite spot for walks and fishing. The market offers affordable panel-era apartments and new buildings — a practical choice for living or letting, thanks to the airport and the industrial parks nearby.
